Merchandising relies on presentation, and its strategy is to attract customers to the product by appealing to their vision. This is, in fact, contrary to all marketing techniques that aim to seek out the customer.

It should be noted that the main objective of merchandising is to attract the customer and encourage them to make a purchase. It is therefore a means of advertising for the company to stand out from the competition for better profitability.

Achieving this objective involves a good layout of the sales space that takes into account:

  • window display;
  • store layout;
  • product assortment;
  • atmosphere;
  • point-of-sale advertising.

All these aspects contribute to customer loyalty.

The different types of merchandising

There are several types of merchandising, but more specifically, three types, namely:

  • organizational merchandising;
  • seduction merchandising;
  • management merchandising.

There is a fourth type that encompasses the first three types and is called communication merchandising.

Organizational merchandising

This involves arranging the products intended for sale in such a way that your customers can find them more easily. To do this, you group together products that fall into the same category.

However, be careful to create assortments based on your customers’ shopping habits. This means that you will place the most sought-after products by your customers in more accessible locations.

Seduction merchandising

Seduction merchandising involves enticing the customer. But how? You need to reserve a well-conceptualized and attractive sales space to please your consumers.

This involves paying particular attention to the design of your logos, window decorations, etc. Indeed, seduction merchandising is the type of merchandising most used in recent years.

Management merchandising

Management merchandising involves the proper management of your sales space. This necessarily involves good organization, which is why this type somewhat overlaps with the first two. The visibility of your products will depend on how well your sales site is managed.

Communication merchandising

As mentioned, communication merchandising encompasses the three types of merchandising. Indeed, through the organization, seduction, and management of its space, the company is communicating with its customers.

It is a non-verbal communication that sends the message that the customer is in the right place to make their purchase and at a better price. It is therefore rare for the customer to judge the quality of the company’s products poorly if they have already been dazzled by the decor and presentation of its products.
